The Audubon Insectarium Is Pretty Fly 🪰
The Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans has been voted one of the five best in the country by readers of USA Today and is absolutely worth a visit. Did you know connected to it is something truly unique and cool: a bug museum! The Audubon Insectarium is one of the few insectariums in the world and also worth a visit. You can purchase tickets individually or as a combo with this top-rated aquarium. My review for it is below:

Stop buggin', it's fun!
It’s the ultimate test—a challenge that hovers above all others. Many have tried, and many have failed. Can you please my mom?
Whether it’s deciding where to go for dinner, finding a good Christmas gift, or selecting somewhere fun to spend the day, making my mom happy has always been quite a feat. She’s very opinionated and isn’t afraid to let you know.
A bug museum for my mom? Are you kidding? I practically had to drag her there, kicking and screaming.
The insectarium features a fun mix of live bugs, informative diagrams, photo ops, and immersive attractions. The knowledge and facts are boundless! So are the entertaining interactions. The world of bugs is far more interesting than I had anticipated.
What really captivated my mom was when we saw a beetle that kept lifting its leg. She claimed it was waving at us, so of course, we waved back. Then we moved to the other side of the display and discovered the beetle had another beetle beneath him… and let’s just say he wasn’t exactly waving.
Aside from waving at beetles trying to get their groove on, you can watch ants tirelessly work in a giant colony, see other beetles roll poop (perhaps it’s preferable to wave at them instead?), and observe fascinating bugs from around the world going about their lives.
Joke break:
Why are beetles bad at basketball?
They keep getting caught in the web.
Then comes the challenge for the brave: the Bug Appetit Café. Here, you can try crispy Cajun crickets, southwest wax worms, chocolate CHIRP cookies, and more! Surprisingly, they don’t taste bad at all. You should give it a try; you’ll even get an ‘I ate a bug’ stamp. I tried them all. My mom wasn’t one to try.
After the café, the most popular part of the museum awaits: The Butterfly Garden. This lush, peaceful garden is filled with flowers and beautiful butterflies from around the world. Tip: If you want butterflies to land on you, wear red—they’re attracted to it because they mistake it for flowers. I discovered this by accident during my first visit.
After going through all of it my mom gave it a thumbs up (or a beetles leg up). If it’s mom approved, I’d say the insectarium would bee 🐝 worth a visit just to see what all the buzz is about. You and your honey will love it! (Did I forget to mention there’s a large honey bee exhibit?) Get your tickets here!
