Kong Dog serves Korean style corn dogs and Chicago style hot dogs in downtown Chicago.
Summary
Admittedly, I had never heard of Korean corn dogs before. I have nothing to compare the corn dogs I had at Kong Dog to, but they sure were unique to me! By the way, National Corn Dog Day is March 15th in the US, if you’re looking for a gift for me, I’m a size small. I’m not sure if they celebrate it in Korea.
What intrigued me about Kong Dog while looking for a lunch spot in Chicago was the 4.7 rating on Google Maps and the quirky offerings on the menu. They have everything from sweet chili Dorito corn dogs to sweet potato corn dogs. Sweeeet.
I wanted to taste a few different things so I ordered a Spaghetti Kong Dog with half beef half mozzarella filling, a Hot Cheetos Kong Dog with beef filling and a Churro Kong Dog. To drink it got a lemonade with strawberry Boba. It sure did add up more quickly than I anticipated, $32 for all of it, a lunch that is expensive considering it’s a fast serve corn dog restaurant.
Mama mia, first up to bat was the spaghetti dog. I wish I had gotten all beef instead of half mozzarella and half beef because the mozzarella flavor overpowered the other flavors and made the dog a little too chewy. Once I got down to the beef end of the dog I was much more satisfied. It tasted like a beefy spaghetti. I don’t know if spaghetti is supposed to be beefy. Where’s the beef? I found it eventually.
Next I tried the hot cheetos dog and was a little disappointed that the hot cheetos didn’t pack more of a punch. I’m not sure why, but they were lost in the flavor of the dog and it tasted like a regular corn dog.
After a somewhat disappointing dog it was time churr up! The churro dog tasted just like a delicious churro. The only issue was in the middle there were some consistency issues with the texture like I had with the mozzarella and spaghetti.
The best part about the lunch was the lemonade with strawberry Boba. It had just the right amount of sweetness.
They do offer regular chicago hotdogs and from what I’ve read in other reviews, those seem to be the highlight of the menu, but I always like to try something different.
