The Melt is a small California fast serve burger chain. They say they have “the meltiest” burger in the world. So I had to step in to see if that’s really true!
Summary
“The world’s meltiest burger!”
Before I could get as excited about that claim as Buddy the Elf got excited about the world’s best cup of coffee, I had to try it. I found myself in DTLA and, in the mood for a burger, so I went to The Melt in Taste Food Hall.
I knew it couldn’t be the world’s best burger because another sign told me that’s at The Clover Grill on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but the title for the world’s meltiest was still up for grabs.
I ordered a Spicy Mission Meltburger, fries, and a vanilla bean shake.
The fries were good and crispy. “The Melt” spice they add gives them a nice flavor. The vanilla bean shake was really thick and had a strong vanilla flavor. It was an above-average shake.
*drum roll* Was it the meltiest burger in the world? The cheese was pretty thick and definitely melted, but I don’t think it qualifies as the meltiest. In fact, I’m reminded of a Burger King in Thailand that offered a cheeseburger with just 20 stacks of cheese and no meat. I think that one might beat out The Melt for the title. (Depending on how much it gets melted I suppose.)
As for the flavor of the burger, while it’s the highest-rated in California, for me, it was just average. The spicy melt sauce didn’t pack much of a punch, and the bun was on the chewier side. The meat was cooked well but still didn’t bring too much flavor itself. The burger did have avocado on it, which was a nice addition.
I’d still like to give The Melt another shot with one of their grilled cheeses sometime; I feel like that’s where they would shine.
